Menus

Remember that Menus are the "lists" or links that provide the navigation for your site.  It is important to understand that a "MENU" holds the links.  Just like a menu at a restaurant, it holds individual  items within the overall menu.

So for example, you will have a menu that is called "Main Menu."  This menu holds all of your key links such as Home, Services, Products, About Us, Contact Us . . .

However, you can have different menus for different locations.  Think of it as a dessert menu or wine list.  Not everyone needs to see it, but if the viewer shows interest in a certain area, it will provide a pleasant user experience to then offer more links to help them find what they need.

The Menu Manager allows you to see all of the menus you have published.  It does not allow you to change the links or address within the navigation. You will change the links by clicking on one of the Menu options and change the links from within that screen.

If we were to click on the "Main Menu" option from the Menus drop down in the screen shot above, we would arrive at the Menu Manager [Main Menu] page.  From here, we can edit and adjust parameters related to this menu.

From this point, we see all of the links within the Main Menu.  Let's say we want to edit the Sample Site link.  Click on the Sample Sites title and we would see the following page where you can make edits or adjustments.

CREATING YOUR DEFAULT LANDING PAGE

Every web site has what is called a "Landing Page" or "home page."  This is the page that brings the viewer back to the starting page of your site, usually the "home page" where the viewer arrives when they type in your web address.  However, you can set this page to something different so that once the viewer has arrived at your site, when they return to the "Home Page" it can be a different page, such as products or services.  This is done by using the "Default" option as set in the "Menus" option.

You'll notice here that the yellow start reflects that the CMS Tutorials link is currently the default, or landing "Home Page."  If we wanted to change this default location to "Home," we would click on the check box next to the "Home" row.

Then click on the "Default" yellow star in the top options and you'll see that the new default page becomes "Home," as shown in the screen shot below.
